Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has approved the renaming of Borno State University (BOSU), Maiduguri, to Kashim Ibrahim University in honour of the first Governor of Northern Nigeria, Sir Kashim Ibrahim.
The name change followed an approval during the first Borno State Executive Council meeting in 2025, which was held on January 7 in the state capital.
According to the State Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Prof. Usman Tar, the new name will take effect after the necessary legislative amendments are made by the Borno State House of Assembly and ratified by regulatory authorities, including the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
In his address to council members, Governor Zulum expressed gratitude for their support and the progress made in 2024. He stated, “Our focus will remain on post-conflict recovery, urban renewal, and the improvement of citizens’ welfare.”
