The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has assured NELFUND beneficiaries who had already paid their obligatory tuition fees before the Nigerian Education Loan Fund disbursed their payments that they will be refunded.
The announcement came in response to online reports alleging that the institution was using delay tactics in refunding the affected NELFUND beneficiaries.
UNILAG’s Head of the Communication Unit, Mrs. Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, made the promise on Thursday while debunking the reports circulating online.
She explained that refunds are not processed immediately upon application because, “we have to reconcile and verify with NELFUND.”
Alaga-Ibraheem further disclosed that the institution has “so far” received three tranches of NELFUND loans, stating that “beneficiaries across the first two batches have been successfully reimbursed.”
She noted that those who are yet to be refunded mostly belong to the third batch of NELFUND disbursements, which was received “towards the end of April. We are currently collating and reconciling students’ payment details.”
UNILAG Establishes NELFUND Desk
She added that the institution’s management has set up a NELFUND help desk at the Student Affairs Division “for prompt assistance and resolution on any complaint.”
Alaga-Ibraheem emphasized that UNILAG remains committed to upholding the values of transparency, accountability, and student-centred service delivery in managing the student loan scheme.
