You can use your National Business and Technical Examinations Board or NABTEB result to seek admission into university, polytechnic or colleges of education within and outside Nigeria like the way you would use your NECO or WAEC results.
However, you may be required to pass an English test as one of the requirements to seek admission into foreign higher institutions.
What you can use its results for
NABTEB issued O’level equivalent certificates include the National Technical Certificate (NTC), National Business Certificate (NBC), and Modular Trade Certificate (MTC). These results can to seek admission into higher institutions.
While its Advanced National Technical Certificate (ANTC), and Advanced National Business Certificate (ANBC) otherwise known as NABTEB A Level is equivalent to the NCE and OND (Nigerian Certificate of Education and Ordinary National Diploma respectively).
You can use NABTEB O’level results to enroll for its A’level exam while the A’level result can be used to HND admission into the polytechnic.
You can use NABTEB O’level results to gain admission into OND courses in all Nigerian polytechnics. For instance, the Auchi Poly states that candidates seeking admission into its Mechanical engineering SSCE or NECO/NABTEB with a Pass in English Language and three (3) Credit Passes that must include Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry at a sitting.
You can use it for the one-year mandatory NYSC service. As far as I can remember during the mobilization exercise for the NYSC, it states that it accepts either NABTEB, WASC, GCE, NECO, IGCE, or GCSE certificates to be uploaded for mobilization.
The result can also be used for Nursing School admission. But in most cases, the institution only accepts one sitting. That is you cannot combine NABTEB results with NECO or WAEC and you cannot combine two sittings of NABTEB. It must be one sitting.
You can use it for your postgraduate admissions. For instance, Lagos State University (LASU) will expect admission seekers into its Postgraduate programmes to have five CREDITS including English Language at Ordinary Level such as GCE, WASC, SSCE, NECO and NABTEB).
You can also use NABTEB results for admission into foreign universities in the UK, U.S, Canada among others. But you may be required to pass the English test.
What you cannot use NABTEB result for
You can’t use it to process Direct Entry (DE) admission into any Nigerian university following the announcement by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Examinations (JAMB) in July 2021 that A’level results by NABTEB would no longer be considered for Direct Entry admission into higher institutions after 2022.
JAMB registrar Professor Ishaq Oloyede was quoted by the media as saying, “The Honorable minister of education has approved that the NABTEB A’level GCE will no longer be recognized as a qualification for DE from 2022. However, all those who have already obtained it prior to this date will be able to use it.”
Is it recognized outside Nigeria?
Yes, it is a Globally Recognized Assessment and Certification Body Preparing Candidates for the World of Work and Academic/Professional Excellence.
Release of result: It usually takes a maximum of three months for the NABTEB results to be released.
Takeaway:
NABTEB has both national and global recognition. Colleges of Education, Polytechnics, Universities both private and government-owned accept NABTEB results for admission. However, most of them will not allow you to combine results.
Passing your exam in one sitting is very important if you plan to use the result for any admission in Nigeria.
As for mode or registration, it has offices across Nigeria where you can approach and get guidelines on registration.
