Established in 2013, the Federal University Gashua in Yobe State, has had three Vice-Chancellors to date: two men and a female professor.
Shehu Abdul Rahman, a professor of agricultural economics, was appointed by the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan, as the pioneer VC of the institution. He was succeeded by Andrew Haruna, a professor of Linguistics and Nigerian Languages while the incumbent and the first female Vice-Chancellor of the institution is Maimuna Waziri, a professor of chemistry.
