University of Abuja Begins Degree Upgrade Programme

The University of Abuja has officially launched its HND to BSc conversion programme, branded as the “Degree Upgrader.”

Conversion programme is designed for polytechnic and college of education graduates who wish to obtain a university degree without writing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The conversion programme, which is managed by the institution’s Centre for Distance Learning and Continuing Education (CDLCE), makes UNIABUJA one of the few Nigerian universities offering such an opportunity.

Now renamed Yakubu Gowon University, the institution has set Friday, June 13, 2025, as the application deadline for the 2024/2025 academic session.

According to an update received by EdubaseNG, the duration of the UNIABUJA conversion programme is two (2) academic sessions, with three semesters per session, making a total of six semesters.

The management also noted that the programme is full-time, including weekends, and may include virtual classrooms in some cases.

Academic programmes are available in the following faculties: Engineering, Social Sciences, Nursing and Allied Health Sciences, Management Sciences, Education, Arts, Science, and Agriculture.

The online application form is priced at N25,000 (excluding bank charges). Applicants must have a minimum of five credit passes including English and Mathematics in not more than two sittings from WAEC, NECO, NABTEB, or TC II, or two ‘A’ Level passes in addition to five ‘O’ Level credit passes in relevant subjects.

Interestingly, the institution also states that NCE holders can apply for the programme provided they have a minimum of ten points obtained from a recognized institution, along with five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes.

The programme isn’t limited to HND holders, Bachelor’s Degree holders with at least a pass degree are also eligible to apply if they aim to upgrade their academic standing.
