UNILORIN Promotes Former Mass Comm HOD, Khadijat Kadiri, to Professor -

The former Head of Department of Mass Communication, Kadiri Kehinde Kadijat, has been promoted to the rank of full professor by the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), Kwara State.

Mrs Kadiri, who is among the 20 newly promoted Associate Professors to the rank of full Professor, served as the HOD of the institution’s Mass Communication Department from July 2022 to July 31, 2024. Also promoted to a full professor is Lambe Kayode Mustapha, who was also a former HOD of the department.

Mrs. Kadiri, whose research spans public relations, advertising, and development communication, announced the news on her X handle on January 30, 2025. The university had earlier confirmed her promotion alongside others before her social media post.

“The Council of University of Ilorin, Nigeria has pronounced me a Professor of Mass Communication (with specialization in Health Communication),” the elated communication expert revealed on her LinkedIn post.

She earned a BSc in Mass Communication from the University of Lagos (UNILAG). Immediately after completing her one-year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program, she obtained an MSc in Communication Studies from the University of Ghana and later a PhD from Universiti Utara Malaysia.

Popularly called K.K, Kadiri is a member of several professional bodies within and outside Nigeria, including the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and the South African Communication Association.

Some of the institution’s alumni have congratulated her for becoming the youngest professor in UNILORIN’s Mass Communication Department. However, Edubase Nigeria cannot independently confirm the claim.

Her published works have been featured in several local and international journals, including ACADEMIA, IISTE, and Google Scholar, among others.
