Update: Na’Allah hands over to Maikudi
Professor Abdulrasheed Na’Allah, on Monday, July 1, 2024, handed over the affairs of the University of Abuja to the acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Aisha Maikudi.
Na’Allah became the vice-chancellor of the institution on July 1, 2019, after 10 years reign as the VC of Kwara State University, Malete in Kwara State.
Earlier, we reported that Maikudi, 41, has been appointed as the Acting Vice-Chancellor by the Senate of the University of Abuja.
Her appointment was announced after the valedictory Senate meeting held on Wednesday, a statement by the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, whose tenure ends on June 30, 2024.
“Maikudi’s appointment is in a temporary capacity effective after the tenure of the current vice-chancellor, pending the ratification by the Governing Council,” Na’Allah said.
The female Professor of International Law, who hails from Katsina State also holds the record of being the youngest Law Professor of the institution.
In her acceptance speech, Prof. Aisha Maikudi, who is the current Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics of the institution, thanked members of the Senate for the confidence reposed in her.
“I want to extend my deepest respect and appreciation to you all for the strong support and unwavering commitment that you have accorded me.”

Maikudi, who joined the service of the University of Abuja on September 4, 2008 as Lecturer II rose to the rank of Professor in 2022.
She is a member of several professional bodies including the Nigerian Bar Association, Nigerian Law Teachers Association, and International Federation of Women Lawyers.
She was appointed as the 7th substantive Vice-Chancellor of the institution on December 31, 2024 and assumed office on 1 January 2025. However, President Bola Tinubu sacked her along with the governing council of the institution on February 6, 2025.
