One of the designated TVET skill acquisition training centres, Taro Agric Consulting (TAC), has won the 2025 Best African Agricultural Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Award, which held at the Kimpton Clocktower Hotel, Manchester, United Kingdom.

The Innovate UK KTP Awards 2025 saw Taro Agric Consulting winning the prestigious award for its partnership with Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, and the University of the West of England (UWE), Bristol, England.

The award coincides with the 50th anniversary of the KTP Award, which celebrates unique innovations and measurable outcomes in business, academia, and society around the world.

Taro Agric was awarded for adopting data-enabled innovations (DEI) for the commercial poultry industry in Nigeria. Through its partnership with OAU and UWE, it enhanced “chicken production efficiency and optimised overall business operations through the strategic application of data-driven technologies,” UWE Bristol stated in its Research and External Engagement publication earlier in the year.

Headquartered in Ile-Ife, Osun State, Taro Agric specialises in broiler-chicken production and commercial poultry farming, with other branches in Ilesa and Oyo State.

The organisers KTP Awards hailed Taro Agric for integrating smart technologies, including IoT-enabled sensors, real-time data storage systems, and predictive analytics, to position itself “as one of the leaders in digital and sustainable poultry farming in Nigeria.”

Other awardees at the 2025 KTP Awards include TNEI Services Limited – Glasgow Caledonian University (KTP Academic of the Year); The University of Essex (Best Knowledge Base KTP Support Team); while Dunsters Farm Limited and Manchester Metropolitan University, and Detoxpeople Ltd – Anglia Ruskin University, won the Changing the World Award and Business Transformation Award, among others.

Speaking during the award ceremony, the Founder and Managing Director of Taro Agric, Mr. Olamide Akintaro, stated that the adoption of IoT-driven smart farming technologies has enabled his farm “to monitor flock health, predict performance trends, and optimise efficiency” – a shift from when they relied on manual processes. He described the KTP Award as a “game-changer for our business.”

Apart from poultry production, the company provides consulting services, training, and capacity building for poultry farmers. It was designated earlier this year by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), an agency of the Federal Ministry of Education, as one of the skill training centres in Osun State for the ongoing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) initiative, aimed at equipping unemployed Nigerians in Livestock Farming (Poultry), Livestock Farming (Beekeeping), and Livestock Farming (Fisheries and Aquaculture).
