President Bola Tinubu has dismissed the Minister of Education Professor Tahir Mamman.
The former Vice-Chancellor Baze University was among five other ministers sacked by the president after the Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday in Abuja.
Before his dismissal, Tahir had proposed that only candidates 18 years and above would be allowed to take NECO and WAEC exams, while those under 18 would not be admitted to any Nigerian higher institution.
According to a statement by the special adviser to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, the five ministers who were sacked by Tinubu are:
- Barr. Uju-Ken Ohanenye – Women Affairs
- Lola Ade-John – Tourism
- Tahir Mamman – Education
- Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo – Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development
- Jamila Bio Ibrahim – Youth Development
The former Minister of State for Health, Dr. Morufu Olatunji Alausa is now the new Minister of Education while Dr. Suwaiba Said Ahmad will now serve as the Minister of State for Education.
Other new ministers who have been nominated for confirmation include:
1) Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda – Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction
2) Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi – Labour and Employment
3) Bianca Odinaka Odumegu-Ojukwu – State for Foreign Affairs
4) Dr. Jumoke Oduwole – Industry, Trade, and Investment
5) Idi Mukhtar Maiha – Livestock Development
6) Rt. Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Ata – State for Housing and Urban Development
Redeployed ministers are:
1) Ayodele Olawande – State for Youth Development will now take full charge of the Ministry of Youth Development
2) Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu – from State for Education to State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction
3) Sen. John Owan Enoh – from the now disbanded Ministry of Sports Development to State for Trade and Investment (Industry)
4) Dr. Morufu Olatunji Alausa – from State for Health to Minister of Education. He replaces Prof Tahir
5) Maigari Ahmadu – from State for Steel Development to State for Regional Development
6) Barr. Bello Muhammad Goronyo – from State for Water Resources and Sanitation to State for Works
7) Hon. Abubakar Eshiokpekha Momoh – from Niger Delta Development to a new ministry Regional Development
8) Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim – from State for Police Affairs to Women Affairs
9) Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite – from Industry, Trade, and Investment to State for Finance
10) Dr. Salako Iziaq Adekunle Adeboye – from State for Environment to State for Health.
