After our earliest report that some of the applicants for the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) got their loans approved, EdubaseNG can authoritatively report that more than N2.9 Billion have been disbursed to institutions that have confirmed the status of their students.
Even at that, some applicants have continued to share testimonies on social media that they awaiting payment from the management of the Fund.
One of the students whose applicant has been approved said:
“Once the loan has been approved, are we going to pay attention to our bank account or something, because my own has been approved!”

How to know if your NELFUND student loan has been approved
Login to your NELFUND dashboard, if your loans have moved from “total loans” to “approved loans”, then you should be on the look out for disbursement from the government (credit alert for the upkeep allowance while your institution will update you when your tuition fee is paid).
Since NELFUND portal went live on May 24, 2024, thousands of undergraduates who applied for the interest-free credit facility have had multifaceted issues arising from their institutions inability to upload their data online to some technical glitches from the portal.
But after June 17, there has been positive news from the applicants, when the loan agency tweeted on its X handle that all issues had been resolved and that students who faced issues should reapply.
Another student whose application is successful and approved said:
“I can’t wait for NELFUND to pay my school fees while I continue to look forward to receiving upkeep allowance in my bank account. The government can actually work if our leaders are determined to make it work. Thank you in advance.”

Meanwhile, some applicants are still stuck at matriculation number verification or facing BVN issues at the time of publication.
One of them said: “I have try it again but unfortunately it showing me no record found for this jamb reg number.please NELFUND rectify this issue for me Abeg.”
When will my application be approved?
For the students who are asking, “Please when are you going to pay the school fees for us?”
Be reminded that it may take up to 30 days for your loan to be approved if your application is successfully submitted.
It may take a 30-day period because NELFUND management will also take its time to do a background check which requires prompt response from your institution. Your institution will have to promptly respond to inquiries sent to them by the loan agency.
For instance, NELFUND had mandated all public institutions to upload their students’ data on the Student Verification System, while some of complied, some are yet to thereby causing errors such as student date not found on the NELFUND portal.
Congratulations to those who have got approval, keep checking your school portal and your email address for the evidence of school fee payment receipt and look out for a credit alert from your bank for your upkeep allowance.

The loan is designed for those who cannot afford payment. If you can, pay your tuition fee and allow others to take the loan. Why build take a loan when you can afford to pay your fees? But if you insist on taking the loan, then you can exercise patience if you’re already verified.

You are trying to game the process by using BVN that does not belong to you. Kindly read the Terms and Conditions of this loan. Using fake details may land you in trouble, Desist from it!

Are you aware that NELFUND has closed the portal for 2023/2024 application? According the agency, all applications for that session have been processed and disbursed. We urge you to contact your institution, it may have been disbursed.
