The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has promised to publish the list of institutions that have uploaded their students’ data on its Student Verification System (SVS) portal by June 24, 2024.
The body which manages and disburses loans to Nigerian students made this known in a statement by its head of media Nasir Ayitogo.
Recently, applicants complained that they encountered errors when they input the names of their institution on the NELFUND application portal. This usually happens if their institutions fail to upload student data onto the NELFUND SVS portal.
The loan agency said it would publish the list of institutions that complied with the directive so as to “ensure transparency and to encourage due access” and participation of every Nigerian undergraduate student and tertiary institution in the scheme.
Level of compliance
Speaking on the level of compliance, the agency, Nasir disclosed that many federal institutions, which are in the first phase, have already completed the exercise.
He said a similar directive had been given to all state-owned institutions to also upload their student data to NELFUND SVS.
Importance of the NELFUND SVS
Students whose data has not been uploaded to the NELFUND SVS will not be able to access the loan, thereby depriving them from access to education.
The data submitted by the institution must correlate with the one applicant submitted on the NELFUN application portal.
When a student submits a loan application, automatic applicant verification will be activated by the NELFUND system so as to ensure that the students claim they say they are.
The purpose is to ensure that those who are not undergraduate or who are not in any higher institution do not have access to the loan to the detriment of those who genuinely need financial support for their education.
This means that:
- The information provided by the tertiary institutions is not only complete, but also accurate.
- JAMB number, Matriculation numbers and Admission numbers, full names and date of birth of applicant must match the record submitted by their institution,
The agency, which urged applicants to enter their data into the portal accurately when applying, expressed its delight in the cooperation it has received from the tertiary institutions, at both state and federal level across Nigeria.

My student loan portal has been verified on October 8 but i have not been paid … And is it a must to see approved on my portal for me to know that i will get paid and fuoye has started a new session already
Yes. It is in stages. Getting verified is the most difficult to pass and you’ve moved to the next stage. Keep checking your portal for your loan to be approved. Congratulations!
My loan just changed from pending to verified but my loan is till at total loan it hasn’t been moved to approved loan.
Pls how long should be wait for my loan to be approved after verification.
When your loan moved to verified, it means you have to be patient for NELFUND collate list of other successful applicants from your institution.
How long? It’s difficult to say.
It could be a month or more.
Congratulations!
