PROFILE: Prof Andrew Omojola is the new VC of Bamidele Olumilua University, Ikere

Professor Andrew Babatunde Omojola has been approved as the substantive Vice-Chancellor of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI).

In a statement signed by Olayinka Oyebode, Special Adviser (Media) to the Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, on Monday, November 24, 2025, Omojola is expected to take over from Prof Olufemi Victor Adeoluwa, whose tenure ends on January 6, 2026.

Governor Oyebanji, who is the Visitor to the University, urged the new Vice-Chancellor to bring “his wealth of experience as an academic and a seasoned administrator to bear in the bid to further reposition the University as a world-class institution of learning.”

The Governor thanked the outgoing VC “for his meritorious service to the University and wishes him success in his future endeavours.”

Meet Andrew Omojola

Early life

Andrew Babatunde Omojola was born on August 14, 1962, in the Old Western Region, later Ondo State, the present-day Usi-Ekiti, Ido/Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

Education

Omojola, after his elementary education, proceeded to Notre Dame College, Usi-Ekiti, between 1976 and 1980. In 1984, he was offered admission by the University of Ibadan (UI) to study Animal Science. In 1988, he graduated from the institution with a Second Class (Upper Division).

After completing his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), he returned to the Department of Animal Science of his Alma Mater, where he obtained a Master of Science degree in Animal Science in 1991, specialising in Animal Products and Processing/Food Safety. In 1997, he bagged a Doctor of Philosophy in the same discipline at the same University.

Career

In 1997, Andrew Omojola joined the academia as Lecturer II at the University of Ibadan, where he held several academic and administrative positions, and was appointed a Professor of Animal Products and Processing/Food Safety in 2011.

Until his appointment as the Vice-Chancellor of BOUESTI, he was the Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ibadan, Oyo State.

Between 2000 and 2023, he held several positions within and outside the institution, including being Head of Animal Products and Processing Unit, Animal Science Department; Director, UI Teaching and Research Farm; Member, University of Ibadan Senate; and Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, among others.

He was also a Visiting Professor Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology, Kumasi, Ghana. In Nigeria, he was an External Examiner at different institutions such as Osun State University and the University of Calabar, Cross River State.

Publications

Dozens of academic works have been published in both home and international journals, while some of them can be found on online academic publication platforms such as ResearchGate and Google Scholar, among others.

Some of his research works and co-authorship include:

  • Carcass and organoleptic characteristics of duck meat as influenced by breed and sex
  • Qualitative evaluation of kilishi prepared from beef and pork
  • Evaluation of the nutritive value and free-choice intake of two aquatic weeds (Nephrolepis biserrata and Spirodela polyrhiza) by West African Dwarf goats
  • Effect of cooking methods on cholesterol, mineral composition, and formation of total heterocyclic aromatic amines in Muscovy drake meat etc
