Prof. Adamu Ahmed has assumed office as the 13th Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria. He takes over from Prof. Kabiru Bala, whose five-year term ended on May 30, 2025.
The handing-over ceremony, which took place at the ABU Senate Chambers, was witnessed by notable academics within the university community and outside.

An alumnus of the university, Prof. Adamu Ahmed earned both his undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Geography and Urban and Regional Planning at ABU. He attained the rank of professor in 2012. He also previously served as Commissioner for Lands and Survey in Bauchi State under the administration of Governor Bala Muhammad.
While promising to build on the legacies of his predecessor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, he stated his commitment to ensuring that collaboration in research and innovation among staff and students aligns with global standards. “With globally respected academics, a strong student body, and dedicated administrators, we will make a difference,” he affirmed.
Born on April 2, 1964, Prof. Adamu Ahmed was, until his appointment as ABU Vice-Chancellor, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Education, Kano.
He expressed gratitude to the Governing Council of ABU and his predecessor, and appealed for their continued support as he assumes leadership of the prestigious institution.
The event was graced by principal officers of the university, management staff, deans, directors, heads of departments, members of the Zazzau Emirate Council, distinguished alumni from within and outside the country, and members of the press.
