IREE | Oct 13 – Osun State Polytechnic (OSPOLY), Iree, has announced an increase in its acceptance fee from ₦35,000 to ₦50,000 for new students in the 2025/2026 academic session.
The increment, which translates to over 42 percent, will affect ND 1 and HND 1 candidates who have been offered admission to study at the state-owned polytechnic.

In an internal memo dated October 10, 2025, and signed by the Bursar, Mr. Sunday Afolabi, part-time and degree students were also noted to be affected by the new directive. The memo instructed portal management that, “The information should be put on our students’ portal for compliance.”
Some newly admitted students who have begun payment of the acceptance fee said additional charges such as a portal access fee (₦1,500) and a transaction fee (₦500) bring the total amount to ₦52,000.
In recent times, many federal and state-owned institutions have increased acceptance and tuition fees, citing high maintenance costs driven by inflation in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, some stakeholders have appealed to the management of OSPOLY to consider the financial hardship faced by parents and self-sponsored students.
One of the students, who preferred not to be named, described the increment as ill-timed and insensitive given the current economic hardship being experienced by many Nigerians. The student called on the institution’s Governing Council to exercise compassion and fairness in balancing sustainability with accessibility.
