The Ondo State Government has approved the appointment of Professor Ebunoluwa Aderonke Adejuyigbe as the third substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo.

Prof. Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe also makes history as the first female Vice-Chancellor of the state-owned specialized institution. Her predecessors are Prof. Adesegun Fatusi (second VC) and Prof. Friday Okonofua (the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the university)

According to a statement issued on Friday, March 7, 2025, by UNIMED’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Isaac Oluyi, her appointment was ratified by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in line with the recommendation of the institution’s governing council.

She will take over from the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Fatusi, a professor of community medicine and public health, whose tenure ends in March 2025. The university’s first Vice-Chancellor, Okonofua, is a renowned gynecologist and obstetrician.

Prof. Adejuyigbe, an indigene of Ondo State, is an alumna of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State.

OAU VC Congratulates Adejuyigbe

Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor of OAU, Prof. Adebayo Simeon Bamire, has congratulated the new UNIMED VC, describing her appointment as well-deserved and a testament to her dedication and hard work.

Prof. Bamire expressed confidence that Adejuyigbe’s leadership would further strengthen the existing collaboration between OAU and UNIMED.

“We trust that Professor Adejuyigbe’s wealth of experience—shaped by decades of service at OAU—will propel UNIMED to greater heights,” Bamire said in a statement.

Prof. Adejuyigbe previously served as the Dean of the Faculty of Clinical Sciences at OAU. She is currently the Executive Director of the Central Office of Research and a Consultant Paediatrician at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital.
