The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, Dr. Olutoyin Okeowo, donated a multi-million-naira Senate Building to the faith-based institution on Saturday, February 1, 2025.
The donation and commissioning of the building—named the Modupe Okeowo and Abiodun Ayanlaja Senate Building—marked the celebration of his 70th birthday.

Born on February 1, 1955, Olutoyin Okeowo holds a master’s degree in Management Science and Technology from the University of Wales, UK, and is also an alumnus of the Lagos Business School.
During the event, he urged the Federal Government to include Ajayi Crowther University and other private universities in the country as beneficiaries of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).
The Pro-Chancellor criticized the exclusion of private institutions from TETFund, emphasizing that their significant contributions to Nigeria’s educational development should qualify them for access to the fund.
Okeowo is not the first education advocate to make this appeal. Similar calls have been made by Prof. Alewo Johnson-Akubo, Vice-Chancellor of Salem University, Lokoja; Prof. Jeleel Olasunkami Ojuade, Vice-Chancellor of Ojaja University, Eyenkorin, Kwara; and Bishop Francis Wale Oke, National President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN).
Okeowo, who succeeded Dr. Wole Olanipekun as ACU Pro-Chancellor, previously taught at the University of Lagos before resigning in 1986 to join his family business.
Beyond Ajayi Crowther University, he has generously supported infrastructure development at institutions nationwide, including the University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan, where he serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees.
Dr. Okeowo is the founder of Metropolitan Motors Ltd and Non-Executive Director of Greenwich Merchant Bank, one of the privately owned financial institutions in Nigeria.
He is also a member of the Governing Council of the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) and Immanuel College of Theology, Ibadan.
