The National Universities Commission (NUC) has presented an operating licence to Isaac Balami University of Aeronautic and Management (IBUAM), Lagos, and 10 others on Wednesday, April 30, 2025.
The Executive Secretary of the NUC, Professor Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu, during the presentation in Abuja charged the founders of the institutions to think Nigeria first and ensure professionalism in their operations.

On his part, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, admonished the founder of the university, Comrade Isaac Balami, to adhere to the goals of its establishment while delivering quality aviation education and training.
It will be recalled that President Tinubu approved the establishment of several universities during a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the State House, Abuja, on March 3, 2025.
Other universities that received licence are:
- University of Fortune, Igbotako, Ondo State;
- Eranova University, Mabushi, Abuja;
- Southern Atlantic University, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State
- Lens University, Ilemona, Kwara State;
- Monarch University, Iyesi-Ota, Ogun State;
- Minaret University, Ikirun, Osun State;
- Kevin Eze University, Mgbowo, Enugu State;
- New City University, Ayetoro, Ogun State;
- Abubakar Toyin University, Oke-Agba, Kwara State;
- Tonnie Iredia University of Communication, Benin City, Edo State;
Balami, a former leading voice of Labour Party (LP) and founder IBUAM hailed Tinubu for being instrumental in making his dream a reality, noting that the approval of the university had been pending for over four years.
The elated founder, who disclosed that he turns 40 this year, said:
“I give God all the glory and also those who allowed God to use him to stand for a common young man like me. At 35 years of age, I began this move. For four years, I was told it would not happen, but God used Mr President and we have achieved this, at least while I’m still 40. This shows Mr President is a leader who pays attention and is ready to stand up for young people.”
He promised that with the takeoff of the university, Nigerians should watch out for the first made-in-Nigeria plane, saying it is a university for Nigeria and the rest of the world.
The university will begin operations from its permanent site located in Lagos, with Professor Paul Jemitola as its pioneer Vice Chancellor in an acting capacity.
