The agency emphasized that timely data uploads are essential for the efficient processing and disbursement of loans to applicants. This was conveyed in a statement addressed to the heads of institutions.

NELFUND, a government agency responsible for managing and disbursing student loans, assured applicants for the 2023/2024 academic session that their approved loans are awaiting disbursement. It urged them to exercise patience, as all successful applicants will receive their funds soon.

Call to Extend Tuition Payment Deadlines

The agency also appealed to institutions to extend tuition payment deadlines for the 2023/2024 session to accommodate successful loan applicants experiencing delays in disbursement.

NELFUND reiterated that it has sufficient funds to handle the volume of applications submitted by undergraduates nationwide.

In its statement, the agency expressed gratitude to higher institutions for their cooperation in supporting students’ access to education funding and facilitating the loan application process.

It also urged institutions to adhere to the prescribed procedures to ensure a smooth application and disbursement process.

NELFUND reaffirmed its commitment to making education loans accessible to undergraduates across the country.

Awareness Campaigns Ongoing

Under the leadership of Akintunde Sawyerr, NELFUND has been conducting tours of institutions across Nigeria to educate prospective applicants about the loan programme.

In less than six months NELFUND opened its application portal for students, 105,844 students across 98 higher institutions have received over N11 billion in disbursement, as of November 6, 2024, when it released data of beneficiaries.
