NECO Accredits Centres In 2 More African Countries for SSCE, BECE

The National Examination Council (NECO) has accredited centres in two more African countries, they are Niger Republic and Equatorial Guinea.

Already, the examination body has its presence in Benin Republic, Cote d’Ivoire, Togo, and in one non-African countries – the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

With the new development, it means NECO will be conducting its Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) and the Basic Education Certificate Examination in six countries around the world.

The move is to expand NECO’s global presence, the acting Director of Public Relations, Azeez Sanni, of the examination body said in a stament obtained by Edubase Nigeria Saturday.

Specifically, the examination body accredited some centres in Niger Republic in 2023 to afford Nigerian students in the neigbouring Francophone country to sit for the examinations.

Mr Sanni said that 5 accreditation team of NECO visited “classrooms, laboratories, libraries, computer laboratories, workshops, examination halls and sports facilities” to assess their readiness to write the SSCE and BECE.

He stated that the accreditation team were satisfied that the schools met the standard requirements set by NECO and “were granted full SSCE and full BECE accreditation status.”

The director of public relations also disclosed that candidates in UNHCR School in Diffa, Niger Republic, are participating in the ongoing NECO SSCE External, making the school the first NECO SSCE External Centre outside Nigerian soil.
