No fewer than 1,000 students from 13 council areas of Nasarawa State have benefited from N100,000,000 worth of scholarships sponsored by Federal Lawmaker Abubakar Hassan Nalaraba. The cash awards are aimed at supporting educational advancement and youth empowerment.
The lawmaker, who represents Awe, Doma, and Keana Federal Constituency, presented the scholarships on Saturday in Lafia through his foundation, the “Nalaraba Foundation.”
Each beneficiary received N100,000 to cover tuition fees for at least one academic session, with Nalaraba noting that the intervention was designed to “ease the financial burden on students and parents and promote access to higher education.”
He explained that underprivileged students in state and federal universities across Nasarawa were the main targets, following a study by his foundation which revealed that tuition fees in the state university and other institutions were not above N100,000.
Speaking on the selection process, Hon. Nalaraba said community stakeholders assisted in identifying deserving students from each town and village.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Nalaraba 2025 Scholarship Grants, Prof. Amirikpa Oyigbenu, hailed the lawmaker for the initiative and urged students to use the funds wisely to justify the gesture. He further disclosed that at least a minimum number of beneficiaries were selected from each ward.
The beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the sponsor, promising to use the funds for the purpose they were designed.
