Lighthouse University, Evbobanosa, Edo State, is a faith-based private university granted an operational licence on February 22, 2024, by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
History

The vision to establish Lighthouse University began in 1989. However, it initially started as Lighthouse Polytechnic, which was established in 2008. As a private polytechnic, it awarded National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) certificates in disciplines such as Accountancy, Business Administration, Computer Engineering, and Electrical/Electronic Engineering, among others.
Later, the founder of Lighthouse Polytechnic, Dr. (Rev.) Felix Omobude, set up a committee to begin the process of upgrading the polytechnic to a university. Subsequently, an accreditation team from the NUC visited for a site assessment.
On February 22, 2024, Lighthouse University was granted an operational licence by the Federal Government. According to the approval letter:
“Upon fulfillment of all requirements laid down in the Education – National Minimum Standards and Establishment of Institutions Act, Cap. E3, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, the Federal Government has approved the establishment of Lighthouse University, Evbuobanosa, Edo State, and it is hereby registered and permitted to operate as a private university in Nigeria.”
The collection of the operating licence was led by the promoter and founder of the institution. The following month, the university advertised vacancies for key administrative positions such as Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, among others.
In May 2024, Prof. Anthony Agboizebeta Imianvan, a scholar at the University of Benin, was appointed as the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the institution, according to The Nation.
On October 30, 2024, the pioneer Governing Council of the faith-based university was unveiled to the public by the Chancellor and founder of the university, Dr. Felix Omobude.
On June 2, 2025, the Vice-Chancellor announced that the university had received NUC approval for its 15 undergraduate courses, reports The Punch.
Location
Lighthouse University is a faith-based institution, located in Evbuobanosa Community, along the Benin–Agbor Expressway in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State. It is the first university to be established in the Orhionmwon/Uhunmwonde area of Edo State.

Admission
The admission process at the university began in September 2024 ahead of the 2024/2025 academic session. On February 2, 2025, Lighthouse University welcomed its first set of students across various academic programmes. The mode of application is through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) or via a change of institution through JAMB.
Infrastructure
The university has male and female hostels, a fully equipped clinic.
Founder
The founder and Chancellor of Lighthouse University is Rev. Felix Omobude, the General Superintendent of the Gospel Light International Ministries popularly known as New Covenant Gospel Church. Between 2013 and 2021, Omobude was the former national president of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN).
