Kaduna to Empower 32,000 People Yearly Through Free Vocational Institute, Opens Portal

The Kaduna State Institute of Vocational Training and Skill Development (KIVTSD) has opened its portal for applications. An initiative Governor Uba Sani, the state plans to train at least 32,000 learners yearly under the new vocational institute

The institute’s objective is to bridge the gap between unemployment and opportunity through hands-on training that meets international standards. Sponsored by the Kaduna State Government, the training is free for applicants, who can choose from over 10 trade areas.

The trade areas are categorized into Construction, Engineering, Information and Computer Technology (ICT), and Hospitality.

Specializations under Construction include:

  • POP and painting
  • Masonry
  • Tiling and plumbing
  • Carpentry and joinery

Under Engineering, the options are:

  • Mechatronics
  • Solar installation
  • Welding and fabrication
  • Electrical installation
  • Aluminum fabrication
  • Refrigeration and air conditioning

ICT offers:

  • Computer hardware repair and maintenance

Hospitality includes:

  • Fashion design
  • Catering and hospitality

Requirements

Application is free, but interested applicants must have a National Identification Number (NIN).

Location of Training

According to a flyer shared on the social media handle of the Chairman of Zaria Local Government, Engr. Jamil Ahmad Muhammad, training centres are located in Rigachikun, Soba, and Samaru Kataf. Applications can be accessed via kivtsd.edu.ng.

Does KIVTSD issue certificates?

Yes. Trainees will receive certifications such as the National Skills Qualification (NSQ) upon completion of the programme. Participants in shorter courses will be awarded the institute’s Competency Certificate.

Duration of Training

Short-term programmes: 3 months, with quarterly intakes leading to NSQ Unit Certifications or the institute’s Competency Certificate.

Long-term programmes: 9–12 months, leading to Full NSQ Level qualifications. Trainees can also progress from unit certification to full certification within the same trade area.

Other Benefits

The Kaduna State Government covers feeding and provides boarding facilities during training. Additional benefits include medical care, counseling, library access, and sports facilities, ensuring a comprehensive learning environment.

Do applicants need formal certificates to apply?

No. Applicants do not need to present any formal education certificates. The centres only require basic literacy and numeracy skills, as well as a commitment to complete the training.
