James Hope University (JHU), Lekki, Lagos, has announced the appointment of Professor Austin Nosike as its new Vice Chancellor. Nosike was formerly Deputy Vice Chancellor at two different universities, including Copperstone University, Kitwe, Zambia.
The Nigeria-born scholar was formally unveiled to the university community on Friday, September 12, 2025, after the institution’s Board of Trustees endorsed the recommendation of the Joint Governing Council, Senate, and Search Team.
Nosike, who also served as Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics and Research) at the Burundi-based International University of Equator, succeeds Prof. Abiola Babajide, who was the acting chief administrator of the institution.
The new VC is expected to deploy his over 30 years of experience in academic administration, human and capital management, and scholarly teaching and research in his new role to “strengthen our culture of innovation, and work with all stakeholders to advance James Hope University as a world-class institution,” Registrar and Secretary to Council, Dr. Achugamonu Bede Uzoma, said in an official statement.
Nosike, a Professor of Public Finance and Business Policy, began his academic journey at Anambra State College of Education, Awka, where he graduated with Distinction before proceeding to the University of Nigeria (UNN), earning a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in 1993.
He holds two Master’s degrees: one in Management from Universidad Católica de Murcia (UCAM), Murcia, Spain, and the other in Accounting and Finance from Universidad Azteca, Chalco, Mexico. He later bagged a PhD in Economics from Universidad Central de Nicaragua, among other academic and professional qualifications obtained across Nigeria, the United Kingdom, Hungary, and France.
He has worked with several higher institutions of learning within and outside Africa either as a researcher, visiting professor, or consultant. In 2024, Namibia’s National Council of Higher Education (NCHE) appointed him as Chairperson of the country’s University Audit Panel.
A former journalist and public relations expert, Nosike is a member of the Governing Council and Board of the Africa-based educational, research, and strategic policy think tank, African Institute of Management, Technology and Development Studies (AIMTDS).
He was also former Head of Partnership and Linkages at Ugandan Pentecostal University (UPU), Fort Portal; former Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies at the University of Kigali (UoK); and Visiting Professor of Management at Kigali Independent University (ULK), among others.
He is a member of several professional bodies, including the Chartered Administrators; Fellow of the Board of Quality Standards; Institute of Policy Management Development; and the Chartered Institute of Professionals.
Founded by Nigerian banker, writer, speaker, and philanthropist Jim Ovia, James Hope University was issued an operating licence in 2021 along with 18 other private higher institutions by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
