UPDATE: NELFULD has announced on July 16, 20204, that OsunPoly is among the 22 state-owned tertiary institutions that submitted their students’ data to Student Verification System (SVS). This came after our July 8 story below on the failure of the institution to abide by the directive of the loan agency
Osun State Polytechnic (OSPOLY), Iree, is the only state-owned institution from Osun that is missing out in the list of tertiary institutions that have their students’ data to the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
While the loan agency said 70 state-owned institutions have uploaded their student data on the SVS of NELFUND as of July 7, 2024, OSPOLY popularly called Iree Poly may block the chances of its student from accessing the loan if the management of the institution failed to submit its students’ data.
Although, the NELFUND list is dominated by government institutions from the Osun with 13, raising questions of compliance from other state-owned institutions, it also showed that some state institutions are non-challatant about the student loan. Education loan is the first of its kind since Nigeria returned to democracy in 1999.
EdubaseNG earlier reported that Osun State University is one of the first state-owned institutions to submit its students’ data, for its undergraduate students to get access to the interest-free education credit facility.
State-owned institutions from Osun that have complied with the directive of NELFUND at the time of publication (July 8, 2024) are:
- Osun State University
- University of Ilesa, Osun
- GTC, Ara Osun State
- GTC, Ile-Ife Osun
- GTC, Inisa Osun
- GTC, Iwo Osun
- GTC,Osu, Osun
- GTC, Gbongan Osun
- GTC, Ijebu-Jesa, Osun
- GTC, Otan Ayegbaju, Osun
- Government Technical College Ile-Ife
- Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke
- Osun State College of Education, Ila-Orangun
What does this mean?
Students of the above institutions can create an account on NELFUND portal and begin the application process. Don’t forget that the portal opened for students at state-owned institutions on July 7, 2024
For now, only students at OSPOLY will not be able to access the loan. It is imperative for the management of the institution to quickly comply by submitting up to date data of their students to the NELFUND.
The application is still the same and the process of applying is the same (find the guide here).
If you encountered any problem in the course of your application process such as “student data not found”, you are advised to contact the ICT Unit of your institution.
