JUST IN: NELFUND Releases Guidelines for Students to Track Their Loan Disbursement

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has released a new guideline for students to track their loan disbursement.

This is part of fresh strategies by NELFUND to ensure transparency, following the discovery that some institutions have been withholding vital disbursement information from their students.

In a statement issued on Sunday, April 13, 2025, NELFUND’s Director of Strategic Communications, Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, said that apart from receiving disbursement alerts, students can also independently check whether their institution has received their institutional loan.

How to Know If Your Institution Has Received Your NELFUND Loan

  • Login to your NELFUND dashboard
  • Under the “Loans” section of the portal, the School Loan History clearly shows: Tracking ID, Date of Disbursement, Status (e.g., Disbursed), Loan Type (e.g., Institutional Fee), Academic Session
  • If the status shows Disbursed, it means NELFUND has successfully transferred the institutional fee to your school.
  • Take the Tracking ID of the disbursement to your school if the institution is pressuring you to make another payment or fails to inform you that your tuition has been paid by NELFUND.

NOTE: “Disbursed” is an official confirmation of payment from the government to your institution to cover your tuition fee.

In cases where there are discrepancies — for instance, if your tuition fee is ₦90,000 but NELFUND disbursed ₦86,000 — reach out to NELFUND via social media to resolve the issue. You can also do the same if your institution denies receiving your disbursed loan.

She pointed out that there are two forms of notifications that applicants would see on their dashboard

Two Forms of Notifications

  1. Upkeep Disbursement Alert – If you applied for an upkeep loan, you will see this alert on your NELFUND dashboard whenever you log in.
  2. Dashboard Notification – If you applied for an institutional loan, you will find this notification on your dashboard, including your loan history.

Mrs. Oluwatuyi therefore advised applicants to regularly log in to their account to check the status of their application.
