The Public Relations Unit of the Federal University of Education, Zaria, has alerted the general public about fake social media accounts created by scammers with the name of its Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Yahaya Isa Bunkure.
Following the appointment of Bunkure in early September 2025, there have been several Facebook profiles camouflaging as the VC, using his name and photos with the aim of defrauding unsuspecting members of the general public.
But in a statement on its Facebook page, FUE Zaria said the Vice-Chancellor does not own or operate such accounts, neither does he have any association with those behind the fraudulent activities.
The statement reads:
“The attention of the University community and the general public is hereby drawn to the activities of some unscrupulous individuals who have created fake social media accounts, particularly on Facebook and WhatsApp, impersonating the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Education, Zaria, Prof. Yahaya Isa Bunkure.”
It called on the general public to disregard calls or messages from 09015369983, 09068288200, among others, describing the phone numbers as being owned by scammers under the guise of having certain “arrangements.”
The institution urged the public to report such accounts and always verify information through official communication channels of the university before taking any action.
Creating prototypes of social media accounts of public figures is a phenomenon aimed at defrauding the general public. There have been fake social media accounts by such questionable characters using the names of presidents, ministers, and others in the past.
