FUDMA appoints Prof Mohammed Othman as fourth Vice-Chancellor

Mohammed Othman (born 22 July 1962) is a Nigerian academic and agricultural engineer who is serving as the fourth substantive Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA), Katsina State, Nigeria. His appointment was approved by the university’s Governing Council on October 25, 2025.

Early life and education

Othman was born in Bindawa Local Government Area of Katsina State, Nigeria. He attended Bindawa Primary School from 1970 to 1977 and Government Secondary School, Funtua, between 1977 and 1982.

He later enrolled at the School of Basic Studies, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, from 1982 to 1983. He obtained his Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate degrees in Agricultural Engineering from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, between 1984 and 2007.

Academic career

Othman began his academic career as an Assistant Lecturer at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he rose through the ranks to the position of Professor.

He has served in various academic and administrative capacities, including as a teacher, researcher, and university administrator.

He was formerly the Executive Director of the National Agricultural Extension Research and Liaison Services (NAERLS), Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

Before his appointment as Vice-Chancellor of FUDMA, he served as an internal member of the University Governing Council, representing the Senate.

Appointment as Vice-Chancellor

Othman was appointed as the fourth substantive Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma on October 25, 2025, following a selection process conducted by the university’s Governing Council and the Joint Council/Senate Selection Board.

The process involved 17 shortlisted applicants out of 28 initial applicants and three additional candidates identified by the Search Team.
