Federal University of Applied Sciences Kachia (FUASK)

The Federal University of Applied Sciences Kachia, Kaduna State (formerly known as Nok University, Kachia or NUK) officially became a government-owned institution on February 11, 2025, following the forfeiture of the assets of its original founder, who was found guilty of misusing public funds for personal purposes.

History

In 2021, Mr. Anthony Hassan, after retiring as the Director of Finance and Accounts at the Federal Ministry of Health, founded Nok University, a private university in Kachia, through his company, KYC Inter-Project Limited.

However, Hassan later ran into legal troubles when the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) launched an investigation into his tenure at the Ministry of Health (2016–2019). Nigeria’s anti-graft agency discovered that he had embezzled public funds and subsequently charged him in court.

In June 2022, the Federal High Court in Abuja issued an interim forfeiture order for all assets linked to Anthony Hassan, including Nok University and other properties, transferring them to the federal government.

On June 7, 2024, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja issued a final forfeiture order, officially placing the university under federal government ownership.

On February 11, 2025, the Nigerian government announced the conversion of the private university into a federal institution, renaming it the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, Kaduna State. This granted the government full control over the institution, which had previously prided itself as the first indigenous private university in Kaduna State.

On March 17, 2025, President Bola Tinubu appointed members of the governing council and principal officers for the newly established federal university.
