Applicants who are seeking admission to the Nigerian Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Distance Learning, Part-time and Sandwich programmes have now been mandated to register through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
Also, they will be required to register on the JAMB portal using their National Identification Number (NIN).
According to the advisory of the examination body, the move is to curb excesses of admitting students through the backdoor.
In a communique obtained by EdubaseNG, JAMB said it’s aware of activities of fraudulent people, who are scheming to compromise candidates’ records via dubious registration channels, which made it to be mandatory for all applicants studying in Nigeria tertiary institutions to provide their NINwhile registering for any programme.
It said regardless of the mode of study whether regular and non-regular, all applicants must register through JAMB.
It directed all prospective candidates in the non regular category such as NOUN, Distance Learning, Part-time and Sandwich programmes to create a profile code, before registering with JAMB.
Applicants in the non regular category can begin this process by their NIN through their active phone number JAMB’s sort code 55019 or 66019.
It has also directed candidates in this category, who haven’t integrated their NIN or phone number to the JAMB platform to do so immediately.
They can begin this process by first creating a profile on the JAMB portal using their respective NINs to access any of the services of the examination body.
“It is, therefore, expected that candidates, who fall under this category, will apply through JAMB before approaching their preferred institutions to process their admission with their respective JAMB registration numbers.”
The advisory stated that the affected students would be expected to pay their preferred institution a processing fee “as determined by respective institutions.”
JAMB promised to make the registration seamless for every category of admission seekers to Nigerian tertiary institutions.
Some tertiary institutions admit more students through their part-time programmes.
EdubaseNG earlier reported how some state institutions in the country admit students without following the due process, thereby creating problems for such students when they graduate whenever they want to access government education fund facilities such as NELFUND.
JAMB registration and NIN are part of the requirements to access the government student loan which was launched for undergraduates in May 2024.
