Low JAMB Score? Here Are The Courses You Can Study With a Low UTME Score (180 and 200)

There are some courses whose cut-off marks are 230 and above, depending on the number of candidates who scored above the benchmark. Some of these courses are often regarded as highly competitive. They include Medicine and Surgery, Law, Engineering, and Nursing, among others.

However, you should not lose hope just because you are not among the candidates who scored 250 and above during the just concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

What to Do If You Scored Between 180 and 200 in JAMB

If your UTME score falls within this range, consider the following options:

  • Apply for a change of institution if your chosen school has higher cut-offs.
  • All you need to do is apply for a change of course or institution on the JAMB portal.

In case you don’t want to waste your JAMB score for this year, below is a list of courses you should consider with a low UTME score:

Will My 190 JAMB Score Guarantee Me Admission?

It depends on the institution of your choice. For instance, while Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife may peg its cut-off mark at 200 or more for any of the courses listed above, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, accepts candidates within the 180–200 score range into its academic programmes.

The above courses are also great, after all, we all can’t be lawyers or doctors. This doesn’t mean that these courses are a dump site or a last resort. The truth is that enrolment in some departments is very low, so it’s only logical to have some motivation in place for candidates seeking admission into the university with their JAMB scores.
