JOS | NOV 21, 2025: Plateau State government has ordered the closure of all primary and junior secondary schools in the state for fear of terrorist attacks.
The directive was issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Plateau Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Richard Jonah, on Friday in Jos.
The order is a response to rising security concerns across Northern Nigeria as terrorists and criminal elements continue their mass abductions of school children in the region.
He said the closure of public schools had become imperative as a preventive measure to safeguard lives and property in the state.
He said:
“All Government Junior Model Secondary Schools (GJMSSs) will close effective Saturday, November 22, while Primary and Day Schools will close effective Monday, November 24.”
Appealing to parents, Jonah said the closure was a temporary but necessary step to forestall potential security threats and part of the government’s efforts to prioritise the well-being of its students.
He directed all Local Government Education Authorities, school administrators and community leaders to cooperate fully with the directive and remain vigilant.
Recall that on Monday, November 17, 2025, terrorists invaded a government secondary school in Kebbi, kidnapping 25 female schoolgirls.
On Friday, November 21, 2025, terrorists struck again in Niger State, kidnapping an undisclosed number of students from a Catholic school in the state.
