Full vs interim accreditation at ADUSTECH
Not all programmes at the institution are fully accredited. While some have full nod from the regulatory agency (NUC), some of the courses in the institution have an interim status.
For intance, the Vice-Chancellor of the institution Prof. Musa Tukur Yakasai on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, revealed that 20 out of the institution’s 24 new programmes got the approval of the National Universities Commission (NUC).
As a student who is already in your year of study, you have nothing to worry about if your programme is still under an interim status.
When there is interim accreditation, the VC and his team would usually step up their game by implementing “strategic measures to upgrade the resources and infrastructure necessary” for the programmes with partial accreditation so that they will meet the high standards set by the NUC.
About ADUSTECH
ADUSTECH is Kano State-owned university established in 2001 during the first term administration of the former governor of Kano, Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. At the time of establishment, it was called Kano University Technology (KUT Wudil).
Renaming
The first name for the institution was Kano University of Technology in 2001, but Malam Ibrahim Shekarau in 2005 renamed it Kano University of Science and Technology Wudil.
Shekarau, a member of All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) at the time, again renamed KUST, this time, after a prominent business mogul Alhaji Aminu Dantata a few months before leaving office in 2011.
But the second coming of Rabiu Kwankwaso, a member of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the time, reversed it to its original name in 2011.
However, another move to rename the instituion began on May 29, 20222 by the administration of another politician, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, a member of All Progressive Congress (APC), as the state excutive council approved renaming it after billionaire businessman, Aliko Dangote on May 29, 2022, following a recommendation by the university’s visitation panel.
And the approval was immediately transmitted to the Kano House of Assembly to make the necessary amendment to the law establishing the university.
By October 11, 2022, the state assembly approves the remaning, which made it officially “”Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil.”
Kwankwaso’s successor Ganduje in 2022 renamed the institution after Africa’s wealthiest person as a respect and in recognition of the feat Dangote in industrialization of Nigeria’s economy, and his immense contribution to education in the Northern state.
When the institution began academic activities towards the end of 2001, there were only two faculties: Agriculture and Agriculture Technology and the Faculty of Science.
Faculties
The institution has now grown to have the following modified faculties:
- Faculty of Agriculture and Agriculture Technology(FAAT),
- Faculty of Science,
- Faculty of Technical Education,
- Faculty of Computing and Mathematical Science(FACMS),
- Faculty of Earth and Environmental Science(FAEES),
- Faculty of Engineering
According to the data on the institution’s portal, it currently has 7,985 students in different programmes and faculties.
