ACU Awards Degrees to 2,679 Graduates at 16th Convocation

Ajayi Crowther University (ACU), Oyo, will on Wednesday award degrees to 2,679 graduates during its 16th convocation ceremony.

The Vice-Chancellor of the private institution, Prof. Timothy Abiodun Adebayo, disclosed this on Monday during a press conference held at the university’s main campus in Oyo.

Undergraduate Category

Highlighting the degrees to be awarded, Adebayo, a professor of  Entomology and Pesticide Toxicology, revealed that 86 students earned First Class Honours, while 1,230 graduates achieved Second Class Honours (Upper Division).

“Similarly, 560 and 61 persons will receive Second Class Honours (Lower Division) and Third-Class degrees, respectively,” the Vice-Chancellor told reporters.

Postgraduate Category

The Vice-Chancellor, accompanied by other top-ranking management members at the Welcome Centre, stated that ACU produced 742 graduates in the postgraduate category. These include 82 individuals who will receive postgraduate diplomas and 660 who will be awarded Master’s Degrees.

He added that 77 individuals will receive Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in various disciplines, while two distinguished personalities—Reverend Bola Adams and Mr. Modupe Alakija—are set to receive Honourary Doctorate Degrees.

Progress Report

Reflecting on the university’s progress, Adebayo noted a significant increase in the number of graduates compared to the previous year.

In 2023, ACU graduated 974 students during its 15th convocation, compared to 2,679 graduates this year. Similarly, postgraduate graduates increased from 594 last year to 742 in 2024.

Expressing satisfaction with the institution’s stable academic calendar and the excellent performance of its students, the Vice-Chancellor highlighted a recent achievement by seven students from the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies.

These students won the first prize in the Advertising Pitch-a-thon Competition held at the University of Ilorin, earning cash prizes from the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON)

Ajayi Crowther presently operates four campuses: the St Andrew’s Campus (Oyo main campus), the Offa Meta Campus, the Kieseni – Awe Campus, and the Osoogun Campus (the hometown of Late Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther).
