ACU Appoints Engr. Olaniyi as First University Director of Works

Ajayi Crowther University has appointed Engr. Oluwole Aderogba Olaniyi as its first Director of Works and Services.

In a letter dated October 17, 2024, and signed by the Registrar and Secretary to the Council, Dr. Jadesola Tai Babatola, the appointment was approved by the Governing Council during its statutory meeting.

Olaniyi, a PhD holder in Structural and Material Engineering, will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of ACU’s buildings, roads, electricity, and water supply over the next five years, reporting directly to the Vice-Chancellor.

After his West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) at Banjolat Friendship Academy, Ipetu-Ijesa, he proceeded to The Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, where he earned an Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Civil Engineering, graduating as one of the top students in his class.

Between 2003 and 2008, he attended Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, where he obtained a B.Tech in Civil Engineering.

After the one-year mandatory service programme, Olaniyi joined Avensis Global Nigeria Limited as a Site Engineer, where he oversaw the construction of major laboratory buildings at LAUTECH.

The pioneer Director of Works, with over 10 years of experience in structural engineering, later returned to his alma mater for an M.Tech in Civil Engineering, specializing in structures.

He received LAUTECH’s Postgraduate School Prize for the 3rd Best M.Tech Thesis in the 2012/2013 academic session.

Olaniyi briefly served at LAUTECH, first as a Teaching Assistant and later as an Assistant Lecturer from 2012 to 2017.

In 2017, he joined the University of The Gambia, Serekunda, as a volunteer with the Technical Aid Corps (TAC), an initiative of Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs aimed at supporting academic institutions in Africa. There, he helped establish the Structural Engineering Department.

He obtained his PhD in Structural and Material Engineering from the University of Ilorin in 2023.

In the next five years, he will also be responsible for preparation, presentation and operation of the department budget, serving as chairman during meeting of the department and acting as spokesman for the department at statutory meetings.

Before his recent appointment at the University, he was the Acting Head of the Department of Civil Engineering.

Olaniyi is member of several professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Institution of Civil Engineers (MNICE), and the Nigerian Society of Engineer (NSE) among others.
