ZARIA | Oct 13 – Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has issued fresh guidelines for all graduating students ahead of the 2025 Batch “C” National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) mobilization, following a new Federal Executive Council (FEC) policy linking clearance to the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank (NERD).
- From 2025 Batch “C,” only graduates with NERD clearance slips will be eligible for NYSC mobilization.
- Students must upload their thesis, project, and personal details on the NERD portal.
- Clearance slips can be obtained via the ABU portal or Senate Building.
- Verification of credentials now a prerequisite before NYSC processing.
The new rule, according to the university management, means graduating students must complete their NERD clearance before their names can be submitted for NYSC mobilization.
Under the directive, students are expected to visit the NERD portal through https://ned.gov.ng/onboarding or https://estmat.ned.gov.ng/ai/enrot-v2.php to begin a preliminary upload of their thesis or project.
To complete the process, they will need to provide a functional email address, a soft copy of their thesis or project, certificate or statement of result, passport photograph, and National Identification Number (NIN) slip.
ABU’s management explained that students applying for attestation must also upload copies of their certificates or statements of result for verification before they can access the final upload link.
“The NERD clearance slip can be obtained through the ABU portal at www.abu.edu.ng or in person at Room 122, First Floor, Senate Building,” the bulletin added.
The NERD policy, recently approved by the FEC, aims to create a national digital database of graduates’ academic works and credentials, helping Nigeria maintain credible education and employment records.
For ABU’s final-year students, the move signals an important shift in how universities and the NYSC system will verify academic records, one that blends education with digital accountability.
