The management of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has appointed a five-member committee on its organised lectures, to be headed by Professor of Economics, Sanusi Rafindadi Aliyu.
Making the announcement on Monday, the Public Relations Unit of the institution listed the members as follows:
- Sanusi Rafindadi Aliyu: Chairman
- Prof Ibrahim Jimoh: Member
- Prof Hamza A Yusuf: Member
- Dr Basira Yahaya: Member
- Prof S S Amoor: Member
- Prof Sani Awwalu: Member
- Mallam Auwalu Umar: Secretary
Prof Aliyu, the current Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Advancement, Research, and Innovation of ABU, takes over from the former head of the committee, Prof Jacob Jari of the Department of Fine Arts, who is currently on sabbatical.
The committee is charged with the responsibility of scheduling public and inaugural lectures, including coming up with scholarly and thought-provoking topics, identifying the most suitable scholars for such themes, and handling lecture costings, among other duties.
The committee has also been mandated to “liaise between the university and lecturers as may be approved by the Vice-Chancellor, in addition to arranging for the production and circulation of invitations, programmes, and lecture texts.”
Prof Jimoh is a media research scholar at the Department of Mass Communication; Prof Yusuf is from the Department of Public Administration while Dr Basira Yahaya is from the Department of Computer Engineering.
Others are Prof Amoor of the Department of Vocational and Technical Education; Prof Awwalu of the Department of Haematology and Blood Transfusion, and Mallam Auwalu Umar is the Director of Public Affairs Directorate of the institution.
