MAIDUGURI | NOV 13, 2025: The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has reacted in a cryptic message after 74 prospective corps members who were stranded on Boko ‘zone’ were rescued by the troops of Nigerian Army.
“IMPORTANT MESSAGE: Prospective Corps Members are advised not to travel at night to Orientation Camp,”and restricted replies to the message on its X handle.
Recall that the troops of the Joint Task Force (JTF) rescued 74 members of NYSC who were stranded on a road prone to attacks by Boko Haram members.
Edubase Nigeria gathered that the JTF in the North-East operation code-named HADIN KAI rescued the corps members along the Buratai–Kamuya Road in Borno State, where the bus conveying them to their orientation camp broke down on the dangerous route.
According to a statement by the Nigerian Army, the incident occurred at about 9:05 p.m. on Tuesday at a point that has now become known as a Boko Haram crossing point.
“The vigilant troops, upon detecting unusual movement involving three buses through a Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) system, immediately activated a heavy patrol team to the location.
“On arrival, the troops discovered 74 corps members, comprising 36 males and 38 females, stranded after their vehicles developed mechanical faults,” the statement said.
It was gathered that preliminary findings revealed that the corps members were earlier escorted from Maiduguri to Damaturu by troops of the 7 Division Garrison.
“However, after arriving in Damaturu, they reportedly continued their journey to Hawul Local Government Area without notifying Sector 2 Headquarters or obtaining an armed escort from the security agencies.”
After the rescue, the corps members were said to have been accommodated at the Buratai Military Base pending “further arrangements for their safe movement to their destinations.”
The Nigerian Army urged the general public to continue to collaborate and cooperate with troops so that the North-East and the entire country are secured for the benefit of everyone.
Meanwhile, some Nigerians have reacted, asking, “Why should corps members be posted to states that are not safe and are prone to Boko Haram and terrorist attacks?”
