LAGOS | OCTOBER 28: University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, Lagos State, has reportedly increased school fees for the 2025/2026 academic session from N190,250 to N407,500, depending on the course of study, some undergraduate students of the institution told EdubaseNG on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.
UNILAG, owned by the Federal Government, had earlier increased tuition fees in July 2023 from N19,000 to N190,250, depending on academic programmes.

A student of Marine Biology said each student in the department will pay N407,500 as basic school fees.
“Marine Biology is paying N407,500 as school fees, paying for lab, yet when we want to do our project, we’re paying again to use a lab (central lab) in school (N12,000 per test) and we do over 20 tests. What’s the use of the exorbitant fees?” the student asked.
Some students, whose fees range between N250,000 and over N300,000, also lamented and asked for the justification of the hike.
“UNILAG, this is unfair! Fees are now over 300k, and parents are struggling to pay, some even borrowing. Yet hostels are awful—bedbugs, terrible toilets, no water. Charging us this much for such conditions? Please fix this!” one student said.
Another commenter added, “This is crazy. A lot of students have dropped, and they are deliberately hiking these fees to frustrate the NELFUND scheme.”
The institution, led by Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, has not issued any official statement regarding the latest tuition hike. However, undergraduate students of the institution have taken to social media, especially X (formerly Twitter), to vent their anger at the management.
At the time of publication, our reporter was yet to receive a response from the institution’s management to hear their side of the story.
Developing story…
