ABUJA, OCTOBER 24 | Training for beneficiaries of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme has officially been flagged off by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa.

TVET is an initiative under the Federal Ministry of Education (FME) and is being coordinated by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

During the kickoff, Alausa, who was physically present at two TVET training centres in Abuja – AFS Vocational Hub, Garki, and Golden Finger Farms and Ranches Ltd – revealed that the programme received more than 1.3 million applications since applications started in May 2025 for the 6–12-month master training track category.

Out of the applications, 970,000 were certified as eligible. The selected applicants “will acquire hands-on skills across 25 NBTE-approved trades, including Hospitality, Fashion and Garment Making, Livestock and Animal Husbandry, and Solar Photovoltaics, among others,” at various training centres across Nigeria.

Alausa also stated that the first cohort of 250,000 trainees has been matched to over 1,700 training centres across the country.

He expressed optimism that most of the beneficiaries, “who are already tertiary-educated and now seeking practical, industry-relevant skills,” would add economic impact not only to their livelihoods but also “contribute meaningfully to the economy.”
