ABUJA, October 11 -The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has approved a final 48-hour reopening for tertiary institutions yet to complete their student verification exercise under the 2024/2025 loan cycle.
- Portal to reopen from 12:00 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 12 to 12:00 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14
- Institutions warned this is the final opportunity to verify students
- Defaulting institutions risk exclusion from the current loan cycle
NELFUND had stated in September that it would cancel unverified student loan applications after October 8, but in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday, the Fund’s Director of Strategic Communications, Mrs Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, said the temporary reopening aims to ensure that all eligible students are verified by their respective institutions.
She advised institutions to make full use of this final opportunity, warning that failure to meet the deadline would lead to forfeiture of participation in the ongoing loan process, a situation that could force out students expecting financial support.
Oluwatuyi added that, in the interest of transparency, the NELFUND will publish the names of institutions that fail to complete verification within the stipulated period.
She reaffirmed NELFUND’s commitment to equitable access to higher education through transparent and inclusive management of the loan scheme.
What is NELFUND?
The Nigerian Education Loan Fund is a government initiative providing interest-free loans to students in public tertiary institutions to support tuition and living costs, with repayment linked to post-graduation employment.
