The Governing Council of Ajayi Crowther University (ACU), Oyo, has ratified the appointment of Professor (Mrs.) Ebunoluwa Oduwole as the new Vice-Chancellor of the faith-based institution.
According to her profile, Mrs. Oduwole is a Professor of African Philosophy and Ethics at the Department of Philosophy, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State.

Married to Venerable Olusoji Oduwole of Christ Church, Mapo, a parish of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) in Ibadan, Prof. Ebunoluwa holds two Master’s degrees: one from the University of Ibadan (UI) and the other from the Erasmus Mundus consortium. She had earlier earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Ibadan, where she won several academic awards, including Best Graduating Student, the Alvan Ikoku Prize in Philosophy, and Dean’s Best Student, Faculty of Arts (1981/82). She also attended U.I for her Ph.D. between 1980-1983.
Apart from being married to a devout clergyman, she is also a Sunday School teacher at Christ Church, Mapo, and St. Anne’s Church, Molete, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Ebunoluwa Oduwole: A Profile
Ebun, as she is fondly called by close peers, served in various capacities at Olabisi Onabanjo University before her emergence as ACU VC.
She was the former Head of Department, Philosophy, and later Director of General and Entrepreneurial Studies at OOU, before rising to become the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) of the institution.
Research Areas
Her research interests include African Philosophy, Ethics and Bioethics, Gender Studies, and global issues in Bioethics. She is a prolific scholar whose academic works have been featured in several local and international journals. Some of her published academic works include:
- A Scoping Review of Cultural Issues Concerning Institutional Quarantine and Isolation During Major Multi‐Country Outbreaks in Africa: 2000–2023
- The Yoruba Concepts of “Ori” and Human Destiny: A Fatalistic Interpretation
- Philosophy and the Challenge of Relevance in African Society – the 79th Inaugural Lecture delivered at Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, in February 2018
- Globalisation as Universalization: Rethinking the Philosophy of Globalisation in Africa, among others.

Prof. Ebun Oduwole has received numerous recognitions both locally and internationally for her contributions and dedication to academia. Some of these include:

Making History as ACU’s First Female VC
Prof. Ebunoluwa Oduwole becomes the first female Vice-Chancellor in the 20-year history of the institution. She is expected to assume duty as ACU VC on October 1, 2025, as the fifth substantive Vice-Chancellor.
The tenure of the outgoing VC, Prof. Timothy Abiodun Adebayo—who has been in office since October 2020—will end in October 2025.
