NELFUND: How Not To Fall For Fraud As You Apply For Student Loan

I know that testimonies some successful applicants share on social media is enough conviction that the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) is real, this should not make you fall in the hands of questionable individuals who might want to exploit the process.

Here are the tips to help to avoid scam as you plan to apply for Nigerian Student Loan:

Avoid unsolicited help from strangers

An individual might come in the form of a helper asking for your details, including your BVN, NIN, email address. For instance, one Shittu Adeyinka on Friday, June 14, 2024, shared the screenshot of his successful application for the loan and directed other applicants who need help to contact him with their details and N1,000 token.

You are advised to ignore this message. And we appreciate the effort of the handlers of NELFUND that they quickly issued a disclaimer warning applicants not to have any business with him.

“Any student who transacts with this individual does so at his/her own risk as he has no affiliation whatsoever with NELFUND,” the student loan agency Tweeted on its official X handle @NELFUND.

A check on Shittu Adeyinka showed that he has changed his handle several times, his last account @ShittuAdeyinka1was suspended due to actions that violate X usage. As such, we implore you to steer clear of his new handle @Adeyinka1S25721. He has shown signs of fraud and should not contact him for any help.

Besides, the guideline for the application process is straightforward. You might not need assistance from anyone if you followed the instructions and if your institution has uploaded your data on the Student Verification System (SVS).

Only Use NELFUND Application Portal

At a time like this, you will most likely see a domain name or portal posing as a student loan application portal. Nigerian Student Loan only has one portal which is nelf.gov.ng, any other domain name is fraud. You are advised not to use such a portal.

Applications for the loan can only be submitted at nelf.gov.ng and you can find them on X @NELFUND.

For instance, a fraudster operating the website fedstudyloan-gov.ng advertised an application for students, please such questionable portal and report to the official handle of NELFUND immediately.

Follow the official handle of NELFUND

If you don’t want to fall victim to student-loan related scams this time, you have to follow the social media handles of the NELFUND, Nigeria’s government agency that accepts, access, review, and approve or reject loan applications.

They have presence on the following social media:

  • Twitter: x.com/NELFUND

  • Instagram: instagram.com/nelfund
  • Facebook: It seems the agency is yet to set up a custom URL on its Facebook, but you can get official page at: facebook.com/share/q9iipDLE7tZ81Eom/?mibextid=LQQJ4d

Any other social media accounts apart from the four listed here should be treated with caution. You will be the first to get updates and tips about NELFUND by following them.
