It’s that time of the year when candidates of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) who couldn’t score higher in their JAMB begin to search for universities whose cut-off marks can guarantee them admission.
In most cases, students with UTME scores between 180 and 199 are more flexible. They are ready to change their institution and even willing to switch their course of study — sometimes, even as they prepare to rewrite UTME.
Universities That Don’t Accept Below 200 Marks
While it is possible to gain admission with a JAMB score of 180, it is known that some universities do not accept anything below 200, irrespective of the course of study. They include:

Universities That Accept 180 Marks for Admission
While some universities peg their minimum UTME admission score at 200 — regardless of the academic programme — many other higher institutions set theirs at 180. However, it’s important to note that for highly competitive courses, you may need at least 200 in JAMB to have a better chance of admission.

Getting the Cut-Off Mark Is Not a Guarantee for Admission
Don’t be discouraged if your JAMB score is 180. We advise that you reach out to these universities to find out which academic programmes can accommodate your score. Many of them are flexible and adjust their cut-off marks based on the number of applicants for a given course.
For instance, a department that doesn’t have up to 10 candidates who selected them in JAMB may lower its cut-off mark to attract more students for that academic session.
Conversely, a department like Medicine, which already has over 400 applicants seeking admission, may be forced to raise its cut-off mark to manage the number of eligible candidates. In such cases, even if every applicant scores 200 and above, the department might set its minimum at 250 or higher.
