New City University Ayetoro -

New City University is a private university located in Ayetoro Town, Mowe, KM 50, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State, Nigeria. The university was founded by Mr. Akin Akingbesote.

History

The plan to establish New City University in Ayetoro began some years ago, but the first accreditation team from the National Universities Commission (NUC) visited in June 2023 and made some observations for the university to address.

On Tuesday, November 12, 2024, the accreditation team from the NUC visited the campus for a second assessment, where they scored New City University above 70% in the areas of infrastructure development, procurement of educational materials, and institutional transformation.

The NUC forwarded its recommendation for the immediate takeoff of the institution to the Minister of Education, who then submitted it to the President for assent. On March 3, 2025, the Federal Executive Council, led by President Bola Tinubu, approved the operational licence for New City University Ayetoro.

On April 30, 2025, the university formally received its operational licence from the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, at the NUC auditorium in Abuja, giving the Nigeria’s private university the go-ahead to commence academic programmes immediately.

The Founder

Mr. Akin Akingbesote is the founder, promoter, and proprietor of New City University. Akingbesote is a serial entrepreneur with investments spanning hospitality and the import and export industry. He also served as a former Commissioner for Commerce in Ondo State.
