The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) has opened its portal for the 2025 Overseas Scholarship Scheme, designed for individuals who want to further their studies in MSc and PhD in the area of oil and gas.
Successful candidates will proceed to further their studies in universities in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Malaysia dubbed UK&GFM and at the Collge of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Kaduna (CPESK).
Benefits
Part from embarking on research at the world-class research institutions, successful applicants will also be provided with flight tickets, payment of health insurance, payment of tuition fees, bench fees, costs of accommodation, and living expenses till they complete their studies.
Things to know
- Applicants can pick any public universities in Germany for their studies.
- You cannot pick courses or programmes outside the purview of PTDF approved courses.
- You can only apply to any of the PTDF approved institutions that are partners for the 2025 academic session.
- Chose programme must be relevant to oil, gas, and energy.
- You can only apply once, you will be disqualified for multiple application.
- If you’ve enjoyed this benefit before either in MSc/PhD category, you cannot apply for the same or lower category any more.
- Beneficiaries of any other scholarship from similar organizations are not eligible to apply.
- All PhD programs in the UK under this scholarship scheme will be offered exclusively as Split-site programs, giving scholars to conduct research in Nigeria at the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Kaduna (CPESK) and the UK by dividing their residency and any of the three partner universities in the United Kingdom.
- The three partner institutions in the U.K for the split-site PhD programs are Robert Gordon University, University of Strathclyde, and University of Portsmouth.
- For the MSc, PTDF says it partners 18 research-based universities in the U.K, including University of Strathclyde, University of Southampton, University of Portsmouth, University of Nottingham, University of Manchester, University of Liverpool, University of Glasgow, University of Dundee, University of Birmingham, and University of Aberdeen among others the full list is available here.
Required Documents
- First Degree Certificate or Statement of Result
- NYSC discharge certificate
- A National Identity Number (NIN) fully verified (NIMC verification charges apply) before applying for the scholarship.
- WAEC/GCE/SSCE/NECO results and the PINs on the application forms to enable PTDF to view the O’level results on the relevant website.
- Recent Passport Photograph
- Local Government Identification Letter
- For PhD applicants, submit a research proposal relevant to the oil and gas industry with the following sub-headings: Topic, introduction, objective, methodology and mode of data collection. It must not be above five pages.
- PhD applicants must have Master’s Degree Certificate
- Evidence of membership of professional associations
- For MSc applicants, write a statement of purpose (maximum 500 words) stating the reason(s) for the proposed study, its relevance to the industry and its expected impact on national development (MSc).
The above requirements must be scanned and attach them to their online application forms.
NOTE: Candidates who successfully scale through the first round of screening will be requested to attend the interviews round with their transcripts; all applicants are therefore advised to prepare their transcripts in anticipation.
