Adesina Lukuman Azeez is a Nigerian media scholar, lecturer, and the first Professor of Mass Communication at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State.
Early Life and Education
Adesina Azeez hails from Kajola Local Government Area in Oyo State, Southwest Nigeria. He initially attended a college of education, where he earned a National Certificate in Education (NCE) from a college affiliated with Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. After a few years of teaching, he gained admission to the University of Lagos, where he earned a BSc in Mass Communication in 1997. He completed a Master’s in International Law and Diplomacy in 1999, followed by another Master’s in Mass Communication in 2001, both from the University of Lagos. He then proceeded to the University of Leeds, United Kingdom, where he earned a PhD in Communication Studies.
Career
After completing his PhD, he joined the University of Ilorin in 2008, where he played a key role in building the university’s Mass Communication Department. He was appointed as the head of the department, and later became the coordinator of the department. From 2013 to 2015, Adesina Azeez served as the Sub-Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences.
In 2018, he was appointed Acting Head of the Mass Communication Department while also serving as the Director of the University’s Advancement Center. He was promoted to the rank of full professor in 2021. In July 2021, he was elected Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences.
In November 2024, Adesina Azeez was elected Vice President of the Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN) for the North Central zone during the association’s 11th Annual Conference.
Research Works
His research interests include Communication Research, Mass Media Theories, and the Emerging Film Industry in Nigeria. Some of his publications, which he has co-authored with other scholars, include “Internet Access and Use Among Students of the University of Ilorin, Nigeria,” “ICT-Enabled Almajiri Education in Nigeria: Challenges and Prospects,” and “Multimedia Tools in the Teaching and Learning Processes: A Systematic Review.” His works are featured on platforms such as Google Scholar and ResearchGate.
