UPDATED: The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, has disclosed that the increased monthly allowance of N77,000 for corps members has been finalized.
NYSC has begun the payment of arrears to corps members beginning from July 2024 to date, the DG said in Abuja. The payment is in batches.
He made the announcement on Tuesday in Abuja during the commissioning of a staff bus donated to the NYSC by the Chief Executive Officer of Capital Express Insurance, Matthew Ogwezhi.
NYSC members are currently receiving N33,000 as a monthly allowance, despite the signing of the new national minimum wage bill into law in July 2024 by President Bola Tinubu.
Although the NYSC DG did not specify when corps members would start receiving the new minimum wage, he stated that they would begin receiving N77,000 by 2025.
Ahmed also reaffirmed his commitment to improving the welfare and security of corps members across the country.
On his part, the CEO of Capital Express Insurance Company stated that his company donated the staff bus to ease the transportation challenges faced by NYSC staff at the headquarters, amid rising fuel and transportation costs following the removal of fuel subsidy by the government.
