The overall best student in the 2023 NECO Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE), Miss Ifebude Chelsea Benson, has been rewarded with a cheque of N500,000 by the Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo.
The state Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, who presented the cheque on behalf of the governor on Sunday in Awka, the state capital, stated that the reward was the governor’s way of encouraging academic excellence among Anambra pupils and students.

It will be recalled that the 18-year-old Ifebude emerged as the best candidate in the 2023 NECO SSCE, scoring distinctions (As) in all the subjects she sat for, including English Language, Physics, Biology, Mathematics, Data Processing, Civic Education, Further Mathematics, Chemistry, and Economics.
Receiving the cheque on behalf of his daughter, Mr. Ben Benson expressed gratitude, stating that his daughter will continue to fly the flag of the state high wherever she finds herself.
Meet Miss Ifebude Benson
Ifebude, who is now an undergraduate student in the Department of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA), attended Renaissance Garden Secondary School, Ago-Okota, Lagos State.
She hails from Ndikelionwu in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Since emerging as the best candidate in NECO, she has received several awards and gifts from organizations that value academic excellence.
On November 16, 2023, the National Examinations Council (NECO) invited her to its headquarters in Minna, Niger State, where she was honored with an Award of Excellence.
Earlier, Fadaella Foods Limited presented her with a brand-new HP laptop in recognition of her outstanding performance in the examination.
